When you’ve finally finished editing a gallery, it is SO exciting to open up Instagram and pick a photo to post yet you start to overthink what image is “good enough” or “mainstream” or not too out there. So what images do people respond to on social media? Quick answer: ALL KINDS.
The key to posting on social media is to post whatever the heck you want and what you love because what you share, you will attract.
THE QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF:
#1 Does this photo inspire me/light me up?
If you’re sharing something that is just another cookie cutter version of what you THINK you should post, step back. Does this image you’re about to share truly mean something to you and make you proud? If so, SHARE why! Your audience will love to hear your thought process behind it.
#2 Does this image share a part of your subjects story?
What meaning is behind this image? What part of the story are you telling? Think of the purpose of this photo and how it is perceived on it’s own outside of the context you know it has. Images can be so powerful so if it’s a strong story, share it.
#3 Are you sharing this because you think others will love it or because YOU love it?
Trends are ridiculous so post what you WANT. It doesn’t matter if it matches a “curated feed” if its just another photo that barely speaks to you. Pick the photos you’re a little nervous to post and see what happens. See who reaches out, how your clientele starts to shift and how much more art you’ll be able to create. A lot of clients don’t know what’s possible behind the camera until you show them so get crazy, get creative and post your art.
When clients see your feed, that’s the type of images they’ll expect from you. So the more you stay in your truth and showcase your art, the more you’ll get to create that type of art. You attract what you share so make sure you’re thinking about it the next time you hit ‘post’.
